Mudskippers are amphibious fish that spend much of their lives out of water, crossing tidal flats on their pectoral fins. They breathe through their skin and the lining of their mouths, provided both remain damp. Some climb mangrove roots, while others leap across the mud with their eyes raised above their heads.
