The remora is a fish with a suction disc on its head that attaches itself to sharks, whales and sea turtles. The disc evolved from a dorsal fin, allowing the fish to travel long distances while feeding on scraps and parasites. Ancient sailors believed remoras could stop ships simply by attaching themselves to the hull.
